Frequently Asked and Answered Questions on the Applications for admission as an Intern or a Permanent member.

I have heard that former BSc holders enjoy equal rights to the current degree holders. If so, can those who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering be admitted at the Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE)?

A: No; admission to the OE requires at least a degree in Engineering.

Can the holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering taken in a foreign country be admitted to the OE?
A: The holders of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering taken in a foreign country must require the equivalency from the Directorate-General for Higher Education or from a higher education institution; they can be admitted to the OE if they are granted equivalency at the degree in Engineering. As situations vary widely, applicants graduated in engineering abroad are recommended to contact the Admissions and Qualification Office at the Head Office of the OE located in Lisbon.

I have obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering and I am attending a Master’s programme in Chemical Engineering. May I enrol at the OE?
A: Any graduate in an engineering course may apply for admission, by submitting the corresponding authenticated certificate; the professional qualifications, which are recognized in the specialization where he or she is enrolled, depend on the respective individual curriculum that will be appraised by a panel of OE’s elected members in Engineering where he or she intends to enrol. If, during the evaluation of academic records, gaps are found in fields of knowledge crucial for the practice of the profession in a particular field, the applicant must take knowledge evaluation exams.

I graduated in Civil Engineering in 2001. Since then, I have worked abroad in a different area in Engineering, I returned to Portugal and intend to practice the Engineering profession and I even got a job in a construction company. A: According to your statement, you must take the internship. Since you mention that you are already working for a construction company you may take an academic internship and benefit from the fact that you are practicing the profession in the company. You may view the Internship Regulations to obtain further information on this type of internship.
