Intern and Permanent Members

Requirements for admission

All those who have obtained a Degree, a MSC degree and a PhD degree or their legal equivalent may apply for admission as a member of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE) in Engineering programmes duly approved by the Ministry for Education and Science, as stated in the lists provided by the Directorate-General for Higher Education.

The admission procedure includes taking admission tests and an internship.

Application procedure for admission tests

1. The Applicant must complete and print the Membership Application Form (please use the computer to complete the editable fields of page 2 of the form).
2. To attach the following documents:
- Photocopy of the Identity Card or the Citizen Card;
- Photo (identified with the name overleaf);
- Certificates approved (compulsory) with the description of the course units, the date of conclusion and the respective average grade (in the case of an Integrated MSc Programme or a 2nd Cycle Master Programme, the 1st Cycle certificates must also be submitted);
- Documents of academic records, which the applicant deems relevant for his or her evaluation (to be sent by email or delivered on CD).
3. To pay the registration fee (80€).

All documents included in the application procedure must be delivered at the Regional Branch or District Branch of the area of residence for professional purposes. Alternatively, they may be sent by mail.

Note: All applicants are recommended to read the Admissions and Qualification Regulations in force.

When the application procedure has been completed, the general rule will be the admission as an Intern Member. If the Applicant has already a proven professional experience in Engineering for a minimum period of five years, he or she may require exemption from taking an internship and may be admitted immediately as a Permanent Member.

The intern member is known as an Intern-Engineer and carries out the internship under the conditions set out in the Internship Regulations and other norms defined by the bodies of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE).

There are two internship types, which can be chosen by the applicants: the Formal Internship (for 6 months) or the Curricular Internship (for two years). In the formal internship, the intern member must have an Internship Supervisor (the Supervisor must be a Permanent Member of the Association, enrolled for more than 5 years).

For the whole period of the internship, the intern members must attend the Professional Ethics and Deontology course, which must also be attended by those who are exempted from taking the internship.

Graduate applicants in engineering programmes attended in foreign universities must be informed on the respective requirements for admission at the Head Office of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE) or at the Regional Branches.
